Common Roofing Installation Questions

1. Should I repair my roof or replace it?
It can be difficult to tell the difference between replacing your roof and simply repairing it. Reroofing your home or business can be a waste of money if done too early. Here’s how to tell the difference:

Roof repair – If your roof is generally in good condition, then a spot repair for a leak, etc. makes sense.

Roof replacement – If your home has dark areas on the ceilings, peeling paint on the underside of roof overhangs, damp spots alongside fireplaces, and water stains on pipes venting the water heater or furnace, then it could be a sign that you’re in need of roof replacement.

2. How do I recognize roof problems?
Pay close attention to how your roof reacts during a storm. Also, frequently check out your roof from the inside of your home or business as well as from the outside. If there are buckling shingles, worn areas near the chimney or cracked spots, it could be time for a roof repair or replacement. Getting your roof inspected regularly will save you money in the long run.

3. How long should a roof last?
This all comes down to how well the roof was installed and the level of abuse it has endured since installation. Poorly designed roofs can last anywhere from six to seven years, whereas some well-built roofs can last as long as 60 years. However, the average lifespan for a roof is about 20 years.

4. How long does a roof replacement take?
Depending on whether it’s for a home or large commercial property and the weather conditions, replacing a roof can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Give us a call at 864-480-9806 and we’ll give you a free roof inspection with more detailed information.

5. How do I prepare for roof installation?
When having roof installation done, it’s important to remove all loose items from walls and shelves because the hammering can knock those items down. Be sure to have your driveway clear in case any materials from the tear-off process falls from the roof fall onto your driveway. The space will also give us a place to store our roofing materials.

6. Do I have hail damage?
The best way to check if you have hail damage is to ask a professional roofer for assistance. However, you can perform a few quick checks yourself before calling us. First check the metal flashing, vents, and valleys for dents from the hail. Next, get onto the roof to check the ridge cap and examine the shingles for damage. If you see cracking, bruising, or granules gone from the shingles, that’s a good sign that you have damage. Be sure to give us a call right away for a more thorough inspection and estimate.
